June 3, 2008. Verilux, Inc- The Healthy Lighting Company- is helping to fund the development of solar energy that will provide electricity for schools in southern Sudan being built by NESEI, the New Sudan Education Initiative. Verilux is donating one dollar for every ReadyLight sold.
NESEI will use the funds from Verilux to install solar panel at their school sites, allowing them to provide carbon-free energy to the school campus. States Atem Deng, a former Sudanese refugee and Co-Director of NESEI, "It makes sense to use the power of the sun, especially in Africa. This is why we are so thrilled about our relationship with Verilux. The solar program that has been supported by Verilux ReadyLight flashlights will revolutionize our students' lives by providing clean, sustainable energy." NESEI hopes to inspire others to make the use of solar energy a port of their approach to international development.
