Winter Blues

“Winter Blues” – a subclinical form of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), is a reaction to the reduced amount of natural daylight available during the winter months. People who suffer from this mood disorder experience normal health for most of the year but battle fatigue and low energy symptoms when available daylight diminishes.

Some people experience a serious mood change when the seasons change or when they find themselves deprived of natural daylight due to long winters, rainy weather, night shift work, airplane travel and subsequent jet lag or just a lifestyle that includes extensive time indoors. Symptoms of the “Winter Blues” include sluggishness, sleep problems, memory loss and even loss of mental acuity.

Scientific studies have shown the effects of light on the body are more than just psychological. Sunlight prompts our systems to produce the hormones directly responsible for improving mood and creating a sense of well-being. When sunlight is unavailable, Verilux HappyLight products provide supplemental Natural Spectrum® light that prompts your body’s natural energy enhancers to help you relax, focus and feel revitalized.

Light therapy products like the HappyLight Liberty can help improve mood, energy-level and productivity.
