Verilux® – Committed to Community Partnerships
We feel partnerships are the best way to participate in building our community, working to fulfill individual needs and priorities while helping make our communities better places to live. Working with each community partner helps to build understanding about the importance of healthy lighting and how it impacts long-term healthy vision and we are proud to provide access to healthy lighting for organizations with limited resources.
Verilux is helping to fund the development of solar energy that will provide electricity for schools in southern Sudan being built by NESEI, the New Sudan Educational Initiative. Verilux donates one dollar for every flashlight sold during the next two years to NESEI. "Verilux has always been committed to enviromental sustainability in the local community and around the world", states Nicholas Harmon, President of Verilux. NESEI will use the funds from Verilux, along with donations from individual and organizations, to install large solar panels at their school sites, allowing them to provide carbon-free energy to their computers. The self sustaining schools have the long-range goal of selling excess electric power to local communities, both to improve the lives of the southern Sudanese people, as well as generate income for the schools.
Lighthouse International- Verilux® has donated cash and lighting equipment to Lighthouse International’s Vision Rehabilitation Services annually since 2002. In 2003 Verilux® formally partnered with Lighthouse International to assist them in their work with the visually impaired. Lighthouse International is a not-for-profit organization whose work enables people with varying degrees of vision impairment to lead independent and productive lives. Lighthouse International funds education and research initiatives while acting as a resource and advocate for individuals and groups in the community. Several Verilux® fixtures are approved by Lighthouse International for use by people who are visually impaired.
Lions Low Vision Center of Eastern Connecticut
Verilux® has partnered with the Lions Low Vision Center of Eastern Connecticut to bring healthy lighting to those who will benefit from it most. Lions Low Vision Centers provide rehabilitative services to individuals with low vision needs including counseling and training in the use of low-vision aids. The Center also runs the Sight Mobile, a 35-foot motor home that travels to people who are unable to visit the Low Vision Center. Low vision clients learn how to optimize their eyesight through glare control, proper lighting and specialized reading techniques. In December 2003, Verilux® donated 200
HappyEyes Floor lamps and an additional 100 in June 2004 to be distributed across Connecticut to individuals coping with low vision and in 2005 Verilux® donated over $85,000 worth of healthy lighting products to help low vision clients throughout the New England states.

Verilux® is a regular contributor to the National Association for the Visually Impaired. NAVH is the only nonprofit health organization in the world solely dedicated to providing assistance to the partially sighted. NAVH is committed to ensuring that impaired vision does not result in impaired life. NAVH helps the "hard of seeing" worldwide cope with the psychological effects of visual impairment by providing visual aids and training to anyone in need of these services.

African Violet Society
Verilux® has been supporting the African Violet Society for 12 years through the donation of healthy lighting for African Violet enthusiasts. African Violets need twelve hours of bright, full spectrum light but cannot tolerate the heat cast by most incandescent lights, making Verilux® tubes a natural choice.
Montana Raptor Conservation Center
The Center’s number one goal is to provide high quality rehabilitative care to injured raptors and species of special concern. Each year between 150 and 200 raptors are admitted and nearly 65% of those rehabilitated are released. Verilux® has proudly donated full spectrum lighting since 1991, aiding raptors in rehab for over a decade. Full spectrum light improves a bird’s health and greatly increases the chance of recovery.
Smith House Health Care Center
Smith House Health Care Center, owned by the City of Stamford, maintains 128 beds including 60 semi-private beds and 68 private rooms for seniors in the community. Verilux® launched the partnership with a donation of 150 HappyEyes Floor Lamps to be used at each resident’s bedside as well as in communal spaces where residents enjoy a variety of pastimes. Lighting assessments are ongoing to ensure residents have the best lighting available to meet their needs.
